Paper Shredding Event

Do you have documents and other papers that need to be shredded securely? The Indian River County Solid Waste Disposal District will host a free shredding event for county resident (no businesses). The first 800 vehicles will be served; each is welcome to bring up to bring up to three boxes or bags, each containing a maximum of 35 pounds of paper. 8 a.m. to noon; Southeast Secure Shredding, 3910 U.S. Hwy. 1, 772-226-3212

Trot Against Poverty 

United Against Poverty’s popular Thanksgiving Day Trot Against Poverty 5K is a professionally timed race that welcomes runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages and abilities. On-site registration and packet pickup begins at 6 a.m., and a free quarter-mile children’s race will begin at 7:15. The main race starts at 7:30 and will be followed at 8:15 by a free sweet potato pancake breakfast and awards ceremony. 7:30 a.m., $35-$40; Riverside Park, 3280 Riverside Park Drive, 772-564-9365
