ShopCore, the parent company of Downtown Palm Beach Gardens, remains steadfast in its commitment to give back amid the COVID-19 crisis and its consequential impacts on the local economy. Following a donation in April to the Palm Beach County Food Bank, the organization has increased the funding to total $45,000 from ShopCore’s Core Giving Foundation. The donation will help the food bank provide access to nutritious food for those dealing with food insecurity.

“During this challenging year we have all faced, there is nothing greater than helping your neighbors in need,” said Erin Devlin, marketing manager for ShopCoreProperties. “At ShopCore, our corporate philanthropic initiative spotlights hunger and the Palm Beach County Food Bank is a necessary and vital resource for so many families struggling to put food on the table. As we navigate this unprecedented time, we will continue to do our part to help the hungry and hope it encourages others in the community to do the same.”

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Palm Beach County Food Bank provided access to nutritious food for more than 100,000 county residents every month. Now, that demand has more than doubled. Typically, the food bank procures more than 5 million pounds of food annually from grocery stores, restaurants, food distributors, wholesalers, and other sources, and provides it to 200 local community partners and programs. In the wake of COVID-19, food donations have become scarce and almost a third of its partner agencies have closed their doors.

“Prior to the virus, there was already a significant unmet need in Palm Beach County,” said Karen Erren, executive director for the Palm Beach County Food Bank. “With the effects of COVID-19 continuing to plague our community, the need has only been getting worse. With the support of donors, foundations and corporations like ShopCore, we have been able increase our distribution to more than one million pounds of food and our plan is to keep that momentum. We are grateful for ShopCore and Downtown Palm Beach Gardens for their continued support.”
