Don red, white, and blue for Space Coast Symphony Wind Orchestra’s free concert, Spirit of America, heading to Emerson Center in Vero Beach June 24. Kicking off at 2 p.m., Conductor and Artistic Director Aaron T. Collins will direct the wind orchestra in the “Star Spangled Banner,” “God Bless the USA,” “America the Beautiful,” and David Holsinger’s thrilling and powerful work, “To Tame the Perilous Skies.”
The concert will also feature a salute to those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans in attendance will be asked to stand when their service song is played. Guests can also count on plentiful marches by composer John Philip Sousa. Rounding out the program is the world premiere of Christopher Marshall’s “Pulse.” This powerful work is a response to the 2016 Florida massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Marshall’s hometown of Orlando. “Pulse” gives musical expression to a full range of emotions—from grief to anger to consolation.
Free tickets to the Saturday performance can be reserved online. Donations to help defray the concert costs will be accepted. For more information, call (855) 252-7276.
