Discover fascinating stories of our area’s history and culture at two upcoming Florida Humanities lectures at the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA). Two storytellers will share their research and knowledge of Florida artists and architects, along with what inspired them.
The first, “Picturing Paradise: From John James Audubon to the Florida Highwaymen” with historian Keri Watson, will take place on June 13. During her talk, Watson will explore how the Florida landscape has provided aesthetic inspiration to artists, including John James Audubon, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Winslow Homer, for centuries.
On September 12, author, historian, and artist Wayne Wood will present “Frank Lloyd Wright and His Influence on Florida Architecture.” This program will offer an understanding of the vast work of America’s greatest architect. While Wright’s architecture is synonymous with the American Midwest, many Floridians are surprised to learn of his presence in Florida.
Both lectures are offered with VBMA’s free Second Saturdays programming. Pre-registration is required.
