Dual Nature Exhibition

November 1–29

Jane Johnson and John Streeter are featured in Gallery 14’s first exhibition of the season. Johnson’s portion, “Memories of Nature,” expresses her perspective, representing “balance, fearlessness, strength, and optimism.” Streeter’s “Portraits to Nature” includes an assortment of works, such as the dramatic seascape shown here and some of his delicately created florals, which strive to “capture the natural color and texture of native flowers.” A reception will take place during the November 1 Gallery Stroll.

Gilles Gorriti

November 1–December 18

A survey of works by French colorist Gilles Gorriti will kick off the month of November at Findlay Galleries. Gorriti was represented by Findlay from 1983 until his death in 2019. The exhibition includes both still lifes, characterized by the intimate lighting of Gorriti’s studio, and Mediterranean landscapes and Parisian street scenes that display a brighter palette informed by natural light. Gorriti was heavily influenced by the French Modernist movement.

‘An Artistic Potpourri’

November 14–January 11, 2025

J.M. Stringer Gallery presents an exhibition of new works by gallery artists plus rare antique paintings. California painter Jim McVicker, one of the featured artists, began painting in his 20s, inspired by the French Impressionists and 19th-century French landscape paintings. He works indoors and outdoors, creating still life and figure paintings as well as landscapes that translate the light, beauty, and atmosphere of nature to the canvas. Another featured artist, Belgian painter Fernand Toussaint (1873–1956), specialized in still lifes and figurative subjects. He painted many graceful floral arrangements and portraits of women.
