The Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) will celebrate the unveiling of “James Prosek: At Work,” on view at the museum beginning July 11. On opening day, meet the multimedia artist and help him create a special community canvas. Admission is free all day as part of the museum’s Second Saturday programming, featuring exhibition-inspired activities for the entire family to enjoy.
Beginning at 10 a.m., help Prosek paint a large-scale work inspired by the flora and fauna of the Indian River Lagoon. Drawing from Prosek’s deep engagement with the natural world, participants will help celebrate the beauty and biodiversity of our local ecosystem by contributing to this shared artwork. From 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., children can explore colorful creatures with a fun art project inspired by the nature-themed exhibition.
“James Prosek: At Work” will showcase a survey of more than 70 artworks that highlight on-site field studies to studio-based painting, watercolor, and sculpture. Docents stationed throughout the exhibition will provide mini-tours and answer questions. The exhibit covers the artist’s first three decades of practice and is Prosek’s second show at VBMA. In 2015, the museum presented selections from his celebrated “Ocean Fishes” series, including detailed paintings on paper depicting species such as the Atlantic Bonito and King Mackerel.
