“Spiritual Explorations”

November 4–28

This month’s guest artist, Jane Johnson, describes her work as striving to “achieve spirit made manifest.” She uses a variety of tools to apply paint to canvas or Yupo paper, a synthetic surface. Her interest in creating art dates back to childhood, and her painting career began in earnest in the 1990s. She and her husband divide their time between Port Charlotte, Florida and Marquette, Michigan. Johnson will be in attendance at the reception during the First Friday Gallery Stroll on Nov. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m.

J.M. Stringer Gallery presents a group exhibition including works by Kyle Stuckey and Leon Brunin. Stuckey is a Charleston, South Carolina resident who studies his subjects so as to render them as the human eye perceives them—everything is not in focus simultaneously. He uses variations in texture and transparency to extract the full potential of the oils. Brunin was a Belgian painter and sculptor who became known for his interior scenes, portraits, and animal landscapes. He also served as a professor at the Academy of Antwerp. Brunin passed away in 1949. This show can be viewed in person or online.
