Web 2021 Travel Photo Contest Winners
Winners are (clockwise from top left) Michael Ott at Sexton Plaza in Vero Beach, Chuck Palmer in Cocoa Beach, Lou Lower in Death Valley, California and Mallory M. Gray from Mykonos, Greece.

It started as a simple idea in a weekly editorial meeting. After a year spent largely in our homes, we were reminiscing about the joys of travel. Someone mentioned they had been looking at pictures from their old trips, and the idea was born. “Let’s organize a photo contest!”

You all took it from there: 122 of you submitted a total of 536 of your very best pictures, exceeding our expectations for our inaugural travel photo contest by, well, miles and miles. You took us across our borders to the Greek isles, Kenya, Paris, Nova Scotia and beyond. Closer to home, we tagged along on your journeys to Death Valley, the Adirondacks, Alaska and Savannah. You took stunning images of Florida’s people, places and wildlife, and even helped us see the wonders right here in Indian River County in a new light.

The only thing you didn’t do was leave us with easy choices. We’re delighted to present the winning photo in each category: Indian River County, Florida, United States and International. We also awarded special recognition to a selection of other photos we couldn’t bear to keep to ourselves. Winners were chosen based on creativity, quality, originality and overall impact of the photo. Thank you to everyone who made this first contest such a success. Our only regret is that we don’t have room to publish even more.
