Amy Magee
Through April 12
Opening this month at Findlay Galleries is a collection of new works by British artist Amy Magee. She is unveiling recent paintings inspired by the landscapes and artistic heritage of the South of France, where she now makes her home. Prior to her relocation, Magee was based in the urban environment of Bristol, England. Having studied psychology at the University of Exeter, after which she completed a residency at the New York School of Visual Arts, Magee is fascinated by the way the human mind processes visual information. In her painting, she reimagines classical light and composition through the lens of contemporary abstraction.

“Kaleidoscope”
Through March 27
Watercolorist Ellen Kaiden, who has studios in Boynton Beach and Massachusetts, calls her style “Idealized Realism.” While depicting natural beauty, often in the form of flowers, she also intends her works as metaphors for deeper realities. “My paintings are life affirming and joyful and reflect my never-ending awe and interest in nature and the miracles surrounding me every day,” she says. As always, the varied works of Gallery 14’s artist-owners will also be on display. A reception will take place March 6 from 5 to 8 p.m., during the First Friday Gallery Stroll.

“Masterworks”
Through May 2
This exhibition features recent paintings by John Phillip Osborne and John C. Traynor, along with select 19th- and early-20th-century paintings. Osborne and Traynor both boast impressive educational résumés. Studying the masters helped Osborne formulate an artistic point of view that has not wavered in 40 years of painting and teaching: he seeks to recreate life on canvas, looking beyond the obvious details to convey the overall mood and feeling of the moment he is depicting. Traynor’s use of light and atmospheric effect is reminiscent of artists such as the American tonality painters and the French Impressionists.
