“Masterworks”
Through May 2
Last month, we featured John Phillip Osborne and John C. Traynor, the living artists of J.M. Stringer’s “Masterworks” exhibition; this month, we highlight the 19th- and early-20th-century aspect of the show, as exemplified by the 1890 painting shown here. Georgina Lara was a British painter about whom little is known. She was born in the mid-1800s and sometimes went by the name “Edwina Lara”; hence the “E. Lara” signature on this work. In fact, much scholarly debate surrounds her identity and attributions under alternate names. Biographical particulars aside, her charming and detailed scenes of village and farmyard life captivate the viewer.

“Aloft”
April 1–24
New Yorker Evan Reinheimer fell in love with both photography and kites as a small boy, and he has found a way to combine the two passions. In the days before drones, he developed his own clever system for rigging a camera-kite apparatus that allows him to capture amazing images from unique perspectives. Despite the painstaking nature of his work, he continues to do it, because he can accomplish things that even today’s drones cannot. Enjoy Reinheimer’s art and learn how he does it at Gallery 14’s “Aloft: Aerial Kite Photography by Evan Reinheimer” exhibition. A reception will be held April 3 from 5 to 8 p.m.

“Charles Neal”
April 6–30
Findlay Galleries presents a solo exhibition of works by contemporary British Impressionist Charles Neal, featuring landscapes and coastal scenes of England, France, and Italy. Inspired by nature, Neal is intrigued with the effects of time, seeking to capture moments before they undergo the inevitable change that occurs constantly. His works explore time, light, atmosphere, and color through refined painterly observation.
