For over 20 years Katherine McConvey has been clipping photographs of interior designs, assembling a book of ideas to draw from when the time was right to build the house she envisioned. But first, she had to find the right property. In early 2011 the CEO of Alloy Development discovered just what she was looking for: a double lot spanning 200 feet of oceanfront in the heart of Vero Beach.
Construction began that fall, with the walls of the main residence and guesthouse rising over the next several months. When completed last year, Katherine and David’s [McNab] home resonated with shouts of glee and laughter as family members and friends came to share in the joy she expresses when explaining how everything came together.
“I had collected pictures of flooring and fireplaces, bedrooms, kitchens, wallpaper, lighting fixtures, things I saw and liked. There were times when I would see a particular fabric, like the one the curtains in the family room are made of. Wouldn’t they make the greatest ball gown ever?” Katherine’s face lights up as she gathers a fold of the shimmering fabric and does a tiny twirl. “Dorothee [Junkin, the interior designer] went through the book with me so she knew my sense of style, the look I wanted.”
