I have known Susan Morse for a brief time and only in the context of the cabin and woods she inhabits just south of the pristine wilderness in Vermont known as the Northeast Kingdom. In her traditional ranger green twills, her sunburned blonde hair and vibrant north woods complexion, she seems so out of place at the Orlando Airport that I almost expect to see a “Sue Morse Crossing” sign to alert predacious Florida motorists to her presence.  She is indeed a rare and endangered species: a fourth-generation forester and wildlife habitat specialist, a professional tracker and nationally recognized ecologist. And, here in the din of horn honking and taxi hailing, she might as well be a visitor from another planet.
