A Slice of Paradise

“We designed the dining room around the large Markus Linnenbrink painting with the Bocci lights raining over the mahogany wood table, mimicking the round globes in the art,” Nancy Ozizmir points out. “Because of the high shine of the art, the lights, and the lacquer server, I wanted to ground the space with something very natural, so I chose a mahogany table from Design Within Reach, and chairs with neutral leather seats. It’s a blank canvas we can add pizzazz to with napkins, plates and flowers when we want.”

It’s been three years since Nancy and Dan Ozizmir started looking at communities throughout Florida where they could escape winter’s snow, ice and freezing temperatures. Avid golfers, tennis players and joggers who much prefer spending time in the sunny outdoors to being huddled in front of a fireplace, they found just what they wanted on our sunny shores.

The Ozizmirs, who, like many others, never saw Florida in their future, were smitten. “The natural beauty of Vero Beach reminds me of Riverside, Connecticut, on Long Island Sound, where we’ve lived for 25 years; the Indian River Lagoon, Atlantic Ocean, and John’s Island Sound are an added bonus,” Nancy enthuses.

The couple’s next step was to find the perfect property on which to build their dream home. They didn’t have to look far — it was waiting for them in John’s Island. Wasting no time, they contacted Moulton Layne Architects.

“Dan and I had seen another house David (Moulton) and Scott (Layne) designed and we knew they were the ones we wanted to do ours,” says Nancy. “We were involved in every aspect of building our home. As the designer on the project I leaned on David and Scott for so many details. I can’t say enough about them. The collaboration we were able to forge allowed us to create a home that is truly a sanctuary.”
