Behind their home, the Weises enjoy amenities that enable breezy indoor-outdoor living, including a dock, fire pit, lanai, cabana and lagoon-style pool. A ramping system blends elegantly into the hardscape of the backyard.

Along with added sunshine, Jill and Peter Weise’s move to Vero Beach came with the construction of a family home perfectly suited to their needs. Peter is retired from his position as a professor in global studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Jill works as a managing director at Duff & Phelps.

“When I was a little girl, my grandparents spent their winters here in Vero Beach,” says Weise. “We had been visiting them for school breaks and different things for years and years, and then probably 10 years ago, my parents had an anniversary and we wanted to do something nice for them, so we rented a condo for them in Vero for a month and sent them down. They hadn’t been here in a while, and we came and spent a little time with them while they were here.

“We ended up buying a condo at Sea Oaks about eight years ago, then my parents moved down, and we would come here with our kids over spring break and over the holidays. We found ourselves coming more and more often and decided a couple years ago that we would make it a full-time gig.”

The Weises relocated to Vero Beach from Massachusetts, where they had resided in a carriage house of an 1800s estate. While the traditional style home exuded period charm, with their move south, they were ready for more up-to-date digs.
