Like others who have chosen to call Vero Beach home, the couple from Chicago discovered our community by chance. Seeking an escape from the Windy City’s endless winters, they had looked at a number of sunny southern spots but none felt quite right. When their daughter told them about the wonderful time she had visiting a friend who lived on the barrier island, the couple decided to see what Vero Beach was all about. They’re glad they did.

“There were so many things we liked about being here but my husband, who passed away in November, was a pilot and he really liked the airport. For two years we debated about where we were going to buy. What sold us on this house was that it’s on the river between the two bridges,” says the wife, gesturing toward the twin spans that connect the mainland and barrier island. “It was a good choice for us.”
