Suzanne Leigh-Vilas loves early mornings. Up before dawn and seated in her office at Leigh Jewelers by 7 a.m., she treasures the quiet time reserved for preparing for what promises to be a busy day ahead.
Before long her employees arrive and the daily routine begins. Trays of rings, watches, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and charms are taken out of the vault where they’ve been kept overnight and carried to the showroom, where they slide into their designated spots.
Glass display cases sparkle and a happy hum prevails as everyone moves about in a familiar pattern and rhythm. All will be ready by 10 o’clock, when the lights go up, doors open and the day’s first customer arrives.
This is exactly where Suzanne wants to be, just like her parents, Mark and Barbara Leigh, who moved the family to Vero Beach 30 years ago.
