
Father Larry Semprevivo was the brains behind the company’s first cookie and continues to invent new cookie varieties. Mother Jo Marie Semprevivo is the company’s corporate secretary. Joseph (center) says his parents are his best friends.
There was a time when Joseph Semprevivo just wanted to be like everyone else. Everyone else didn’t have their days marred by finger sticks and needle pricks. Everyone else didn’t get denied cake at birthday parties or candy as a reward for perfect attendance at school. Everyone else could pretty much snack on whatever they wanted.
At the age of nine, everything sweet became the stuff of dreams. Joseph was diagnosed with diabetes and stripped of his unalienable right to raid the cookie jar.
It was a long six years before he extracted himself from his culinary predicament, using the determination of youth and the knowing ways of his restaurateur father.
