Dolphins dancing, pelicans plunging beneath the waves and seagulls swirling overhead. This is the lure of a home located directly on the Indian River Lagoon in Vero Beach and cradled between the Barber Bridge to the north and the Alma Lee Loy Bridge to the south.

One of two lots lush with swaying palm trees and tropical foliage overlooking the river, the original home was an 1,800-square-foot one-story with tiny rooms built in the early 1990s. But it was the spectacular views of the Intracoastal Waterway and the dawn-to-dusk slideshow of flora and fauna that made this spot the true essence of Florida living that captivated the heart of the builder. 

 “I had my eye on this lot since 1988. I used to live in the neighborhood and I had always seen the dolphins right here,” he says, pointing to the lagoon right outside the window. “I really liked that aspect of the location. The dolphins are always doing something — it’s just amazing.”

As the principal of a local construction company often commissioned to build multi-million-dollar homes on the barrier island, he jumped at the chance to purchase the home when it came on the market in 2007.
