Eggnog And Elephants At Tripson’s Dairy

Elton Hill is the man who saw the famous escaped elephant on U.S. 1 in the 1940s.

If you happen to have some holiday eggnog in your refrigerator, now would be an excellent time to pour yourself a glass.

“I can make eggnog but it’s gotta be in a 325-gallon batch,” says Mark Tripson, the grandson of one of Vero Beach’s most famous patriarchs, Waldo Sexton. “I don’t know how to make it any smaller. We had a little dairy here and we made eggnog. We started about a week before Thanksgiving, but after January 1, sales took a dive.”

Waldo Sexton started the original dairy, which he called the Vero Beach Dairy, in 1924.
