The original Worth Avenue location, which has since moved across the street, opened more than 50 years ago.
How does a family-owned retail apparel business continue to thrive after almost 80 years and into its third generation? With Maus & Hoffman it’s quite simple. First, select a sound product line — high-end resort and seasonal wear. Next, select the right market — Florida, of course, with prime locations in Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Naples and Vero Beach. Then offer brands from the best Italian and American designers.
Maus & Hoffman can check off all of the above and that’s what put the business in the top tier of menswear stores from its earliest days.
But that’s only part of the story. Maus & Hoffman produces much of its own merchandise — shepherding the process from the textile mills in Italy through the manufacture of jackets, trousers and shirts — providing unique fashions available nowhere else.
During a recent visit to their Vero Beach store on Beachland Boulevard, John Maus and his son Michael, members of Maus & Hoffman’s second and third generations, talked about the business’s past, present and future.
