Out for a day’s fishing on the Indian River Lagoon, Capt. Brian Williamson displays a freshly caught trout.

There is plenty of truth in that famous old Chinese proverb. And for nearly 30 years, Brian Williamson has been feeding people as a charter boat captain and owner of Vero Tackle & Marina, located below the foot of the Barber Bridge on the island side.

Brian was born and grew up in Vero Beach spending hours motoring up and down the Indian River Lagoon, sliding into the shallows behind spoil islands, and looking to hook a red drum, trout or snook. For more than 26 years, most of his career as a fishing guide, he worked for Jack Jackson, the former owner of his company.

“I always said to Jack, ‘If you are serious about selling the business, let me know. I’ll buy it from you,’” recalls Brian as he pushes his 21-foot boat off the floating dock behind the marina.

Three years ago, Jack took Brian up on his offer and sold the business to Brian and his wife, Tiffany. These days Jack works as a guide for Brian.

“We’ve got reverse roles now,” Brian jokes.
