The painting that hangs between the breakfast nook and the living room inspired interior designer Tiffany Sweeney's color selections. All of the home's furniture was custom ordered except a few existing pieces the Hornes wanted to incorporate.

Robert Daniel Horne and Dottie Emmons Horne may have met later in life, but they are making their years together count, and nowhere is this more evident than the vibrant Vero Beach home they designed and built together.

Dan is a Florida native, born in Miami and raised in Kissimmee. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he attended the University of South Florida, graduating in 1970. He then pursued a career in federal law enforcement, ascending the ranks to become a special agent with the United States Secret Service.

“Upon retirement in 1994, I was fortunate to continue my career in D.C. as director of security and facilities at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts,” Dan shares. “Shortly after the events of Sept. 11, 2001, I joined the newly formed Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration, or TSA.”

He retired from this position in 2005 and moved back to Florida, where he resumed flight training, earned his instrument rating — and met Dottie.
