Wesley Davis may be one of the more familiar figures in local politics, but without question he is the top-of-the-mind charity auctioneer. Name a cause and odds are excellent that Wesley made a cameo at one of its fundraisers. Quail Valley Charity Cup Gala? Yup. Youth Guidance Tropical Luau? Check. Mardy’s Tennis & Jake’s Music Fest? He was there. Many millions of nonprofit dollars have been raised because the guy knows how to pep up a party and rally for bids. Wesley’s volunteer efforts at Saint Edward’s School Pirate Ball last April brought in more than $300,000. The Benjamin School in Palm Beach County raised almost three-quarters of a million dollars at a Wesley-led auction a decade ago.

Auctioneering is how he makes a living, after all. It also “never hurts to be handed a microphone when you’re running for office,” says the longtime county commissioner. Wesley has never been one to shy away from public speaking.
