A friend of mine recently gave me the book The Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkinson which asks God, among other things, to “enlarge one’s territory.” Subsequently I attended a Bible study that was studying this same prayer. We were encouraged to pray the prayer of Jabez daily. My mother has always warned me to be careful what I prayed for. Listen to your mother.
Before I knew it, I was in the Miami airport as a leader of a Christian mission trip, with 27 high school students from 15 states in the U.S., boarding a plane for Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Suddenly, my territory had been expanded, vastly altering my idea of a summer vacation! I’d been on summer mission trips before, but this year I returned as a leader along with Vero Beach residents Marsha Sherry and Fellowship of Christians and Universities and Schools (FOCUS) student Bobby Guterma.
