New Opportunities For Victims of Violence

SafeSpace CEO Jill Borowicz is passionate about letting those suffering from domestic violence know that there is help.

It’s been more than three years since Jessica got up the courage to escape from what she called a “hopeless and horrible situation.” The question was where could she and her children go where her abuser couldn’t find her? How would they survive on their own?

Fortunately, her mother gave her a telephone number to call. It was SafeSpace, a United Way agency that offers victims of domestic violence safety, support and educational programs designed to provide the assistance they need to set a positive direction for their future.
Jill Borowicz, who heads up SafeSpace on the Treasure Coast, knows how Jessica felt.

“I am a survivor of domestic violence myself,” she admits. “It’s funny – like a lot of victims I never really saw myself that way. I rationalized everything. My family didn’t even know how bad things were until about a year and a half ago when I told my testimony in church. My two daughters did not know what I had gone through and that’s why I did it. I wanted them to know that violence should never be an option in any relationship.”
