Nurturing Nature At The ELC

As many of you already may know, the Environmental Learning Center is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. For those of you unfamiliar with it, the ELC is located just south of the Wabasso bridge on the lagoon side, and its mission is to provide environmental education programs that instill an understanding of the natural world and inspire participants to be active stewards of our natural resources.

ELC’s educational offerings span the calendar year and immerse the participant, whether adult or child, in the outdoors. It’s this type of “hands-on, feet-wet” learning that is at the heart of its programs. Ecology adventures for adults and families run the range of pontoon-boat excursions, kayaking and canoeing, and walks and hikes into various natural areas of the Treasure Coast. Summer months mean ecology camps, with Pre-K through high school as the target audience. The School District of Indian River County has been a longstanding partner, sending its third- and fourth-grade students for environmental education.
