Like many people relocating to Vero Beach from the north, Kathy Bantleon wanted to incorporate treasured family heirlooms into the design of the home she purchased in the Palm Island Plantation community of Indian River Shores. “People told me I shouldn’t bring my antiques and brown furniture to Florida; but these pieces had been in my family for generations, and I wanted to give them a fresh look,” says the Pittsburgh transplant.
Jennifer Elmore, owner of Jennifer Elmore Interior Design and its companion retail shop A Shade Better, did exactly that and more. Using Bantleon’s collection of Chinese export porcelain, majolica, English Staffordshire, and French Quimper as inspiration for the home’s color palette, Elmore gave classic pieces new life with colorful patterns and textures. She created welcoming spaces that seamlessly blend antiques, contemporary furnishings, one-of-a-kind pieces, and coastal elements. The result is a home that is timeless, fresh, comfortable, distinctly personal, and as happy as its new homeowner.
“Jennifer did a wonderful job of incorporating my art, antiques, and furniture in the most beautiful way possible,” comments Bantleon. “She was very open to allowing me to be part of the process, and now, thanks to our collaboration, my home is uniquely me.”
