Scribbling On Sandfly Lane

As a writer, I was especially intrigued when I was assigned to work on a story about the Sandfly Scribblers, a local writing group that meets every Monday in an open, art-filled room at the home of Gertrude Terry, which is located on the prettiest street in Vero Beach, Sandfly Lane in Old Riomar.

At first, however, the members were not sure they wanted the publicity. “This is a closed group because we don’t have the space for additional writers to join,” explained Gertrude’s daughter Charlotte Terry. “But we hope that people will be encouraged by our example to start their own groups. It helps so much to be able to read our work to each other, and have constructive feedback. Also, meeting on a weekly basis is a strong motivation to write during the week, so that you have something to offer the other members.”
