Bobby in a familiar spot he has frequented ever since he launched his business in 1981 – behind the bar at Bobby’s.

It’s a scene played out dozens of times each night, seven nights a week, at Bobby’s Restaurant on Ocean Drive along the Beach.
“I’d like a table for four, please.”

“No problem. I’ll have one for you in 45 minutes. You can wait back in the bar and I’ll come and get you when something opens up.”
Precisely 45 minutes after you’ve run up a $35 bar tab, the proprietor himself – Bobby McCarthy, the Toots Shor of Vero Beach – shows you to your table. “The steak tidbits are always great,” he says, and then he walks off to tell another party that he’ll have a table for them in, yes, 45 minutes.

And, of course, they keep coming back seemingly en masse to that happening place on the Beach known to everyone simply as Bobby’s. It’s where the Dodgers hung out. It’s where celebrities – or pseudo celebs – drop in to banter with the owner. It’s where you might catch a glimpse, just a glimpse, of a Vince Scully or a Jim Boeheim or a Rick Monday.
