For Wintley Augustus Phipps dreams have always played a large part in his life. As a child in a troubled home in Trinidad, he often sought relief in the world of dreams.
“I had a red tricycle,” he recalls. “I used to go into the back yard and turn the tricycle on its side and use one of the backside wheels as a steering wheel. I would sit there for hours and dream –dream that I was flying to faraway places and meeting important people. Dreams are not just flights of fancy, you know. They are part prayer and part hope.”
Now, some four decades later, Wintley is still an incorrigible dreamer who encourages others to dream – especially children. In 1998 the U. S. Dream Academy was founded and incorporated in the State of Florida as a 501[c](3) non-profit organization. Wintley is its founder, president and CEO. The academy is the result of a dream that he had been nurturing for 20 years.
