It was St. Edward’s School that clinched Barbara and Tom Matesic’s decision to make Vero Beach their new home. The couple were moving to South Florida so Tom could take a job with a fleet-fuel company, but were concerned that their daughters, Jennifer, 13, and Mallory, 12, would have their education interrupted at a crucial time.
So the Matesics visited several Treasure Coast towns and finally chose Vero Beach because they had heard of St. Edward’s outstanding reputation. It also helped that they had been coming here for 20 years, ever since Barbara’s parents, Frank and Bernetia Converse, had retired to a home in John’s Island.
