It’s a Winter Wonderland at Vero Beach High School as students from the Performing Arts Department celebrate the season with a variety of vocal and instrumental offerings.

‘Tis the season for glad tidings of musical joy as singers and instrumentalists tune their talents to celebrate this beautiful time of the year. From Angels We Have Heard on High and Silent Night to The Little Drummer Boy and Jingle Bells, the tradition of storytelling through song continues with special presentations at schools and churches all over the community. Most of the performers, who range in age from 4 to 94, have been rehearsing for weeks and welcome an audience. December has a tendency to slip by very quickly, so before it does here is a sampling of the musical events you won’t want to miss.

The Messiah. This marks the 40th performance of Handel’s masterpiece at the First Baptist Church. Music director/conductor Michael Carter couldn’t be more excited. “This is our gift to the community,” he says. “In fact, when I interviewed for the position here 13 years ago one of the things I was told was that The Messiah absolutely had to continue, and it has. We have between 80 and 100 singers who come from all over the area, and for the solos I like to bring in world-class vocalists. The Atlantic Classical Orchestra is again accompanying us.
