A former collegiate and minor league baseball player, he earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University via a U.S. Navy Health Professions Scholarship. He served as a general medical officer with the 3rd Marine Logistics Group before completing his anesthesiology residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
