Qigong is one of many ways people fight chronic stress — an enemy of a healthy immune system.

We’re paying more attention to our immune systems these days, and for good reason. The immune system is our first line of defense against viruses, such as coronaviruses, as well as bacteria, parasites and fungi that can cause infection, illness, disease, and even death. Keeping our immune systems in tiptop shape, according to medical professionals, is the best strategy for optimal health and longevity. Better yet, it’s well within our control.

“It all comes down to adopting basic healthy lifestyle habits,” observes Dr. Felice Haake, a board-certified family physician who specializes in age management and medical weight loss at the Regenerative Biologics & Age Management Institute in Vero Beach.

“You may have a genetic predisposition to heart disease, diabetes or certain cancers,” Haake says, “but these factors can be overcome through an individualized approach to wellness known as precision medicine. Genetics loads the gun, but lifestyle pulls the trigger.”
