Jasper Johns and The Flag. Ever since the mid-’50s the two have been forever linked as Johns, one of the most influential artists of our time, made the American flag his signature statement. After dreaming of the red, white and blue for several nights in a row the young painter decided to take brush in hand and recreate the vision he had in his head. The rest is history.
Today, Johns’ paintings and prints can be seen in major museums, and through April 30 The Gallery at Windsor is showcasing some of his newest works on paper. The exhibition, curated by Iwona Blazwick of London’s Whitechapel Gallery, is the latest in a three-year curatorial partnership between the two galleries.
