For 22 years, Ken Grudens has led the Indian River Land Trust (IRLT) in protecting the natural lands, waterways, and scenic beauty of Indian River County. Under his leadership, the nonprofit organization has permanently protected more than 1,300 acres and 12 miles of Indian River Lagoon shoreline and continues to restore vital coastal habitats and ensure public access to nature for all ages.
Grudens has more than three decades of conservation experience. Before joining IRLT, he managed the New York State Farmland Protection Program and served as land protection director for a land trust in the Hudson Valley. He holds a master’s degree in landscape architecture and a bachelor’s degree in architecture.
A respected leader in Florida’s conservation community, Grudens formally served as chair of the Indian River County Conservation Lands Committee and on an advisory committee of the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program. Currently, he is on the Board of Directors of the Alliance of Florida Land Trusts, where he served as president for two years, and is a contributing author of a book on Florida landscape conservation to be published in 2026. His lifelong commitment to land and water conservation continues to shape a healthy, resilient, and accessible environment for future generations.
