The Cohanes chose to furnish their veranda, which looks out over the Indian River Lagoon, as they would any other room, with a sink-into-it sofa, side chairs and settee all upholstered in weather-smart Sunbrella. An elegant coffee table completes the picture. “It’s regular furniture and very comfortable,” Jack says.
Seven years ago Jeanne and Jack Cohane came up with a plan. They would spend a winter here, a winter there, looking for just the right community before settling down in one place. There was no rush; after all, Nantucket had been their home base for years, and their main residence and guest house on that special island provided more than enough nesting space.
Since there wasn’t a drop-dead date to their plan, Jeanne and Jack figured it would take several years before they found the ideal spot. It all sounded so logical, so simple and straightforward—and it was—until early on in their travels they discovered Vero Beach.
“We had it all figured out,” says Jeanne, smiling at her husband. “We were going to go somewhere different every year: Arizona, California, Florida. We knew, first of all, that we wanted a golf community.”
