Indian River Sunset, oil on canvas, 30" x 40" Arnold painted this brilliant, flaming sky from the Jungle Trail looking west. Bands of color—the water, houses and their docks, the glowing sunset and blue sky—are the primary elements that enliven this work.
When Linda Arnold and her husband Bob first visited Vero Beach to stay with close friends at Windsor some eight years ago, they were struck by the city’s serenity and quiet charm. Linda remembers painting the golf course in the intense light of a sunset from a teak bench on the perimeter.
“As an artist, I was attracted to the area’s natural beauty,” she says. “The skies, the beach, dunes, marshes and the views west over the Indian River. Specifically, I liked Windsor’s village concept and the privacy of its courtyards. I liked the low-key atmosphere, but the feeling that if you sought it out, there was a lot going on.”
Over the years Linda’s oil paintings have been displayed at some 20 galleries throughout the United States. She has also won a number of artistic prizes including the prestigious Ralph Fabri Prize for Landscapes, which she received at the National Academy of Design in 2004. As a visiting artist from the north, she has exhibited at the Meghan Candler gallery in Vero Beach for the past six years. Now, as a new resident of Windsor, she will grace the area on a more permanent basis.
