When Bill Schauman became director of the Indian River Shores Department of Public Safety (police, fire and EMS) last January, he introduced a system of communicating with residents that he had developed over the years.
Bill, who has been with the Indian River Shores DPS for 20 years, felt it was a priority to set up a website offering such services as alerts and safety information. The website, www.irspsd.org, incorporates an alert system Bill customized to inform the public of major incidents, including hurricane updates and notification of missing persons and suspicious activities via cell phone text-messaging or through e-mail.
