Landscaping with native plants saves water and money, enhances the water quality, and provides food and habitat for local wildlife. This article provides suggestions and some starting points for planning your landscape.

When purchasing natives, it’s best to do business with a nursery that specializes in native plants. From Vero Beach search northward because plants sold there will tolerate your climate better than ones that might be offered from West Palm Beach south, where the climate is distinctly more tropical.

The easiest way to find a local native nursery is on the Association of Florida Native Nurseries’ website, www.afnn.org. You can also join the local chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, which offers native plants at some of its meetings and events.
