Kidz Closet: Local Needs, Local Resources

Through Kidz Closet Charities, Diane Mahan and Susan Jursik provide gently used infant, children, junior and maternity clothing, as well as books, toys and bedding, to such non-profit organizations as CASTLE, Care Net and the Homeless Family Center.

The first time Michele Lewis met Diane Mahan she didn’t know what to think. Here was a woman who was offering to give CASTLE, a non-profit agency that works to prevent child abuse, children’s clothing and toys. Free. No strings attached.

“I really wasn’t sure what to expect,” says Michele, administrator for the agency’s Indian River County office. “I told her sure, we can use things, but we don’t have the ability to store them. Diane said no problem; just let us know when you need something and I’ll bring it to you. And she does. Every time I e-mail her about what we need she shows up with her car full of all kinds of things. She’s an angel.”

Diane doesn’t consider herself wing-worthy. Instead, she says it’s her partner-in-giving Susan Jursik, the owner of Kidz Closet of Vero Beach, a consignment shop on 21st Street, who deserves the designation.
