There aren’t enough superlatives to adequately describe how members of the Moorings Club feel about their new clubhouse, which opened to rave reviews last month. To a person, everyone agreed it was worth the 28-month wait, and memories of the 2004 hurricanes that destroyed the original facility were a thing of the past as members celebrated in grand style with a Governor’s Ball.
From the impressive exterior to the welcoming lobby, the inviting lounge and impeccably appointed dining rooms, the two-story clubhouse is the realization of a vision shared by members and staff alike. The end result is an understated elegance that appears effortless, yet in reality took a great deal of planning, commitment and perseverance.
As president of the Board of Governors, Jack Morris was there every step of the way. “It was my job to organize the replacement of the clubhouse and, because I was an engineer and in the construction field for 50 years, I was able to describe the entire process to the board,” he explains.
