"Martin Hoffman was a painter about whom little was known.” So Martin Hoffman says his epitaph shall be. But a look at the 71-year-old artist’s life and the incredible amount of work he has produced during a career now in its seventh decade both supports and refutes that statement.
The statement is fundamentally false because the artist’s work speaks volumes for him. Indeed, binders filled with reproductions of his work and mementos of his professional career occupy 12 feet of bookshelves in his home. Both his commercial work in illustration and his fine art work in painting speak to the man’s natural talent, imagination and monster work ethic.
His career tells of a man who, in his fine art, paired beautiful painting technique with challenging subject matter, and who used the commercial arena to explore his creative ideas.
