Water Lilies: From Monet To McKee

Water lilies will always be associated with the paintings of French Impressionist Claude Monet and his home in Giverny, which is visited by thousands of enthusiasts every year. But there are many other displays of water plants around the world worthy of attention, as the International Water Lily & Water Gardening Society (IWGS), based in Bradenton, Fla., is well aware.

Every year, the IWGS plans a four-day symposium in a different region of the United States or somewhere overseas. This year the focus was on Florida, with visits to the Florida Aquatic Nurseries in Fort Lauderdale and private gardens on the east coast as well as the Everglades and Silver Springs. The group also spent a day at McKee Botanical Garden, where they studied the superb lilies photographed on the following pages by Vero Beach Magazine photographer Jon Pine.
